children at play

There is nothing sweeter on this earth than watching my children at play. They joyfully abandon any pretense of seriousness and revel in the pure, unadulterated happiness of running as fast as they can before they fall down. Then they immediately spring to their feet and repeat the excercise with the same, or often greater, enthusiasm, smiles in their eyes, laughter in their voices. The wonderful thing is that they don't need any special item, or even a special reason to do this. They do it because....they can!

They have this same ability to throw themselves wholeheartedly into anything they do, too. Whether it is play, chores, or learning something new, when they've decided that's what they're going to do, they don't hold back.

When I grow up, I want to be like my kids.

old buildings

I love old buildings...there's something about the craftmanship that resonates in me. Whether it's the detailed gargoyles on ancient churches, or the visual interplay of structural members as shown in this building, it all puts me in awe of one of man's greatest gifts - the ability to create.

When He endowed us with this gift, God gave us both the ability to rejoice with Him and spurn Him as our heart leads us. My son and daughter delight in showing me the things they've created in blocks, paint, crayons, chalk - really any medium they can think of. With that same creative spark, we humans envision the machines of genocide and politics.

I want to be the one running to Him saying, "Look what I made! Ain't it cool?"
